Over half the population of US on Facebook!
According to new figures released by Arbitron Inc. and Edison Research, America joins the UK with half of the population on Facebook.
Since its launch seven years ago, Facebook has attracted over half a billion people around the world, and continues to grow.
Facebook VP of Europe, Joanna Shields, announced to attendees of the Financial Times Digital Media and Broadcasting Conference in early March that the total number of users in the UK had reached just over 30 million – half the country’s population.
Today, more than half (51%) of Americans over the age of 12 have a profile on Facebook, found the joint study from Arbitron and Edison Research.
Three years ago just 8% of the U.S. population was signed up with the social network.
These figures are taken from a new study, “Dial 2011: Navigating Digital Platforms” by Arbitron and Edison Research that is due for official release next month, along with a free webinar. Among other things the study delves into the reasons behind Facebook’s incredible rise in popularity.
